There seem to be a ridiculous number of brightly coloured birds visiting the feeders now (we have peanut and sunflower seeds out currently). The goldfinches seem to alternate with the greenfinches on one, meanwhile the squirrel protected one is host to the tits, robins, chaffinches and dunnocks. The latin name for goldfinch is one of those funny repeated things: Carduelis carduelis (yes, like rattus rattus – the black rat).
Quote of the day:
“What wondrous life is this I lead!
Ripe apples drop about my head;
The luscious clusters of the vine
Upon my mouth do crush their wine;
The nectarine and curious peach
Into my hands themselves do reach;
Stumbling on melons, as I pass,
Ensnared with flowers, I fall on grass.”
