Stamford …. a town with a few churches!

The first thing you notice about Stamford as you arrive is the colour of the stone buildings: buff/soft yellow limestone. Then you notice the number of historic and timbered buildings (there are ~600 listed buildings in the town). Finally, you notice that there seems to be a church on every corner. In fact, by the 13th century Stamford had 14 churches, 2 monastic institutions, and 4 friaries and most are still there and in use.
