Wordless Wednesday – Starting a new phase of life

A newly emerged female Broad-bodied Chaser dragonfly (Libellula depressa)

It has just extracted itself from this mud encrusted exuvia. You can even see hole in the shell where it shrugged its way out.

Wings almostly full inflated, it is nearly ready to patrol around the garden.

The yellow spots on the abdomen glow against the golden body (which will gradually darken with age).
