Wordless Wednesday – Althaea cannabina dancing in the breeze

Althaea cannabina, the hemp-leaved marsh mallow – one of my favourite plants this year

alcea3

Light and airy, it can be grown near the front of a boarder as a dancing veil (rather like verbena bonariensis)

It will grow up to ~2m and is an obvious member of the mallow family

OK, so this is over-zoomed, but I couldn’t resist the detail. Just look at the tiny little pollen spheres on the end stamen

Another plant to add to my list… Lovely.

  2. I love placing tall plants at or near the front of the border and yes now on a list for next year.

  3. It’s stunning, the pink is tempered by ?grey which makes it very appealing to my eyes. Love the anther/pollen details too. What a lovely alternative to Vb.

  4. These are simply stunning. Thank you.

  5. Eliza Waters says:

    Beautiful macro! Such unusual stamens.
