Dragos Gemelos – The twin Dracaena draco trees in Brena Alta, La Palma

drag4

The heavily bifurcated branches give an indication of the age

Of course there is a myth to go with the trees to do with brothers fighting (and dying) over a girl

drag3

Both roots and branches are entwined

drag5

Dragon tree seeds are burnished and made into rustic jewellery on the island

drag6

The trunks are pitted and as I looked up I could see bees swarming around the holes

This was wonderful. I was afraid the fence was going between the trees. Those seeds are interesting.

    • I see what you mean, but luckily they have only ring-fenced them as the houses around them have been extended. The seeds are indeed fascinating. The trees flower only intermittently (so the crop is high irregular), causing the branch bifurcation.

Fascinating trees, they make quite a statement.

  3. Oh, that is very cool!
