I know they’re annoying and irritating, but they’re so cute!
Mostly I am in the cute camp … until they start destroying things
I’m with you! Some years ago, National Geographic had an article–complete with wonderful photos–on the cleverness and dexterity of squirrels. The researchers came up with several complex mazes for the squirrels to learn in order to get to the treats. The most intricate of the tests was very complicated: it only took a couple of days for the squirrels to figure out their paths to victory. No matter what, they’ll always outsmart mere humans. 🙂
gotta appreciate the gymnastics!
Definitely! There are some entertaining videos around of assault courses being constructed to show how dexterous squirrels can be to get to nut feeders.
They are persistent, that’s for sure. It is amazing to watch the lengths humans go to thwart them. My favorite is the all time squirrel champ (unharmed) on the twirling Yankee Flipper feeder: https://youtu.be/FgDa_cpgHWs
Amazing! Astronaut training methinks. Thanks
