Orchids in the local quarry are only just starting to emerge. The annual count this evening is going to be hard going with so few flowers and spikes showing.

A very fresh looking twayblade

This bumblebee found a flower!

Man orchid, with some of the little men in mid-twist

One of the most advanced Common Spotted orchid

Hopefully although there appear to be fewer orchids in the quarry this year, it may look different in two or three weeks time.
These are so pretty – love the shot of the bumblebee! She looks like a bronco rider! 😉
Just needs a little hat!
🙂 Yee-ha!
What a fabulous selection of orchids, I am crazy about them. I saw a Man Orchid today with the little bodies just emerging. It is on a protected verge here in Suffolk. There are not many sites left where you can find them.
I’ve not heard of protected verges before. What a good idea!
Wonderful photos! That first bee looks a little like he (she?) is hanging on by the feet and waving the arms in the air: ‘Look mom! No hands!’
Ah yes … and so photogenic
