Wordless Wednesday – An Enchanting Cardinal Climber

trop1

Ipomoea x sloteri ‘Cardinal Climber’ – You can’t miss its dramatic scarlet flowers

trop2

with spectacularly contrasting pollen

trop4

Definitely tempting the pollinators (in fact I’ve mostly seen ants on the flowers)

trop5

The flowers roll themselves neatly closed, before falling away

trop3

An easy to grow climber with ferny green leaves, turning purple later … Well worth a space on our archway.

I’ve grown several different Ipomoea, but not this one. Maybe I should give it a try!
