This is a list of seed suppliers that I’ve either used or browsed and found interesting:

Baker Creek – American site – Rare heirloom seeds including asian and european examples

Bee Happy Plants – Specialise in supplying plants and seed to encourage pollinators.

Beans and Herbs – Fantastic selection of organically produced unusual and heirloom beans and herbs. Now extended to flower seed.

Bishy Barnabee’s Cottage Garden – For a nice selection of chilli seeds … also sell some flower seeds

Botanical Interests – American site- Plenty of organic and heirloom seeds

Burpee Europe – UK/Dutch company who focus on developing new varieties of vegetables and flowers for home gardeners, including tomatoes, sunflowers, marigolds and zinnias

Chiltern seeds – Grow Something New from Seeds

D.T. Brown’s – Vegetables and fruit

Dobies * – – general fruit and vegetable supplier

Emorsgate Seeds – Wildflower and grass seed, species and mixes

Grow Seed  – Largely supplying reasonably priced vegetable seed

Growild Nursery – A small Scottish nursery that specialises in rare and unusual seeds (and plants), particularly from Japan, China and the Himalayas

Grow Sow Greener – For a selection of organic microgreens

Grow Your Secret Garden – Unusual selection – I tracked down some particular Amaranthus cultivars I was looking for here

Higgledy Garden – Particularly good for cut flower seeds

Iden Croft Herbs – Herbs

Jekkas Herbs – Jekka McVicar’s herb seeds and more

Kings Seeds – Good Organic selection of vegetable seeds

Lubbe and Sons – for large bulbs orders and community planting

Meadowmania – Wildflower and other meadow/border mixes. Possible to customize mixes

Seed Megastore – Extensive collect of seeds, including a good range of herbs. Cheap (29p – 17/03/23) ‘basics’ range.

Moles Seeds – (will supply to individuals)

MoreVeg – Diverse range. Small numbers of seed provided, which means less waste if you just want to try something out.

Plants of Distinction – Flower & vegetable seed, including heritage and heirloom varieties

Plant World – Sells over 3500 varieties of flower and vegetable seed (covering a fair share of rare and unusual entries). The vegetable seed includes a range of heritage and heirloom varieties.

Protea and SA Seeds – South African plant seed

Real Seeds  – Heirloom and heritage vegetable seed for home gardeners and allotment growers

RP Seeds – Unusual and exotic seeds

Sarah Raven – Cutting flowers and more. Good source of single colour seed (rather than mixed)

Sea Spring Seeds – Vegetable seeds with some fun, unique varieties

Seed Co-operativeUK’s community owned organic seed company

Seedaholic – Great variety of flower and vegetable seeds from the everyday varieties to the hard to get exotics.

Seeds of Italy – Good selection of Mediterranean vegetables and herbs

Simply Seeds – Vegetable seed at very reasonable prices

South Devon Chilli Farm – For chilli seeds

South Eastern Horticultural – Went to this supplier for my favourite beefsteak tomato ‘Giantomo’

Special Plants Nursery – Derry Watkins – Unusual selections

Stocks and Green – Small independent seed supplier largely aimed at growing cut flowers.

Suffolk Herbs – Herbs

Sutton Seeds * – bought out by T&M in 2020

Tamar Organics – Organic seed and supplies, based in Cornwall, UK

The Organic Catalogue * – Garden Organic with Chase Organics: seeds etc

Thomas Etty – Heritage Vegetable & Flower Seeds

Thompson & Morgan * – Large selection of most things.

Victoriana Nurseries – for Tomatoes, chillis, Fuchsia seeds/plants etc

Vital Seeds – Organic, open-pollenated, plastic-free selected vegetables and flowers

Wildflower Seed – Individual wildflower seed as well as meadow mixes – I tracked down yellow rattle here

World Wonder Gardens – Plenty of exotic and unusual seeds here, including aroids, ferns, succulent etc.

Woolmans  – for bulbs and chrysanthemums

* It’s worth noting that T&M has now (2020) acquired 100% of the share capital of Suttons Seeds Ltd and its 3 brands: Suttons, Dobies and the Organic Catalogue. The acquisition coincides with the launch of the T&M Marketplace.

  1. I would also add Moles Seeds. I have had very good results with their seed – better than most other firms. They also supply to retail customers. I’m very satisfied with them.
